Internet Relay Chat

We operate an IRC server for the Anselm community at irc.anselm.dev courtesy of the excellent Oragono ircd. Oragono conveniently integrates most bouncer functionality, so the need for e.g. ZNC is almost completely eliminated. For users less familiar with IRC, this significantly lowers the threshold to entry.

Why not Discord?

Discord is not open source and cannot be self-hosted.

Why not Matrix?

Synapse is wildly inefficient, and as such, running a matrix homeserver would triple the operating costs of this server.
